More rain. Not like yesterday either. It's about 9.30ish and I've been up for about 3-4 hours and it's not stopped yet.
Everything is already mostly packed. I'm seeing at least one more day here. Hopefully this will clear itself up today or overnight.
I see a lot of reading in store for today. Only 2 batteries left for the phone. Want to hold these in reserve so no podcasts today.
At least that's what I should have done. Instead, about half an hour later, things looked like they were geting better so I packed and took off.
The first section is pretty steep but once you get to the top it's fairly easy. Turns out that the weather wasn't easing up at all either. Visibility was poor and there was a light, constant rain the whole time. There was one point on the top where I couldn't see the next marker pole but there was a very large pole nearby. Turns out it was some sort of transmitter. Three hugh solar panels on a box which looked to have been broken in too. Well, the atempt had been made at least. Where the door handle probably was there was a rough hole with a lock on the inside. The pole was about the size of a single story house and appeared to have a wifi antenna on top. No indication of the purpose of the set up.
The trail down from the top was like walking through some ancient fantasy forest. Everything was covered in moss. The path (mostly), the trees, anything on the ground... You couldn't see more than 50m in any direction, except up and that was cloud and rain.
As the decent continues and I came out of the cloud deck the rain began to intensify and the wind picked up too. It still wasn't too cold though.
I'm not sure how but I took a wrong turn at the Bald Hill Road Quarry and took the downhill road. I must have got the track notes mixed up as from the north to south route you hit Bald Hill, then the quarry. I thought the summit I was just comming off was Bald Hill. Anyway, 4km(ish) down that road I decided to make camp. There was only 2 hours before I lost the sun. There wasn't really anywhere suitable so I ended up making one. Found a relatively flat spot and cleared the furns, leaving them behind producing a rather comfortable place to sleep. Got the tent up, stowed the packs under the fly and crawled in. At this point it's been raining all day non-stop and I'm drenched to the bone. Getting naked, dry and dressed for bed wasn't as bad as I expected even in the incredibly small space of the tent.
So... I'm "lost" but not as bad off as I could have been.
