Not a bad start today. Up with the sun and on the trail by 8. The weather was great too. There was a little cloud cover that had mostly burned off by late morning and from there it was clear blue sky all day.
It was a good walking day but there wasn't really that much to write about unfortunately.
There was a lookout just before Kiwi Saddle that could use some tree felling just in front of it. The view has the potential to be really good, but the trees are just tall enough to block it enough to spoil it.
Hope Kiwi Lodge is nice. Several rooms for bunks and a large public area. When we got here the place was already occupied, although the tenants were nowhere to be seen. Raf and I grabbed one of the bunk rooms.
Tyler, Rene, Shane and Jack did return after a while. They'd gone fishing. Scored a good sized trout too. They seem to be camera shy though so there's no photo of them. Probably something to do with the calibre of the fly they used to catch the fish... They're heading towards St Jacobs Hut tonight.
We have another tramper here too. Yuki is from Japan and doing sections of the Te Araroa. His report on the Tui Track wasn't great. "Never doing it again" were the words I think.
The plan tomorrow is a very early start so I can get to Windy Point in time to catch the Atomic Shuttle to Christchurch. If the weather holds up another day it should be a good run tomorrow too.
