New Zealand Skeptics Society

Skepticism, rationalism, critical thinking, science and the scientific method... These are things that I'm passionate about. In May of 2009 I founded the first Skeptics in the Pub event in New Zealand in Christchurch. Skeptics in the Pub has a long history world wide and dates back to 1999 to a lecture series in London. Currently there are hundreds of events world wide and the numbers keep growing. New Zealand has 5 active groups with a 6th starting in November in Hamilton.

Since starting @NZSitP I've also become the Chair Entity of the New Zealand Skeptics Society. I'm invested in this organisation and while this may not be as "worthy" a charity as the others this is the one that I consider to be my personal pick.

The New Zealand Skeptics form a network of New Zealanders including magicians, teachers, scientists, health professionals and many others from all walks of life. Members have a variety of religious faiths, economic beliefs and political leanings, but are all interested in examining what objective scientific support there is for claims of such things as psychic abilities, alternative health practices, creationism and other areas where science, pseudo-science and shonky science interact.
